2010 TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE NEEDS VOLUNTEERS…June 6 – 28 . 2010

To Prospective Volunteers:The Transportation aspect of the USA International Ballet Competition is fun and rewarding, and although sometimes hectic it’s rarely ever been described as boring.  Transportation desk personnel and drivers probably have more contact with dancers and special guests than most other individuals working during the competition; as such, great stories, experiences, and friendships have formed over the years making the role of Transportation Volunteer one that is filled every four years repeatedly by past year’s volunteers who have fun and enjoy the camaraderie and competition experience.  We hope that if you too have the opportunity to volunteer, you’ll consider Transportation, this year especially…and if not now, for the competitions to come.  Please know that we’d appreciate your assistance whatever the capacity, and that without help like yours, the hosting of a successful competition would not be possible.Transportation Volunteer role descriptions:

Volunteer Drivers—Approximately 45 people serve as volunteers for the three-week event period. Of the 45, 15 drivers per week are needed to execute the daily routes to shuttles teachers &/or VIPs to and from points of rehearsal or competition. Volunteers are encouraged to participate on any level—a day, a couple of days, a week/weekend, mornings/evenings only or for the entire length of the competition.  IBC has an entire motorpool of vehicles that are assigned to drivers; no one uses his personal vehicle, and please note, drivers must be of age 18 or older with a clean driving record and valid driver’s license.

Airport Staffing Option—Approximately 5 volunteers oversee manning the airport as needed for arriving competitors, facilitating their drivers & transportation once there, and departure follow-through. These volunteers work directly to communicate with the main desk of Transportation assuring timely and accurate delivery of arriving individuals (and their baggage).

Transportation Main-Desk Option—Approximately 2 volunteers per day (x2 shifts) oversee the main-desk whether it be at Thalia Mara Hall or elsewhere; duties include making out arrival pick-up schedules for drivers and assigning them daily; communicating with TCC staff at airport, manning the phones, and handing out volunteer driver assignments as they come in; these volunteers also schedule other TCC’s for assistance at main-desk during event.

Interested? If so, here’s the information needed for all USA International Ballet Competition Transportation volunteers & prospects…the competition is just around the corner, so it’s time to get organized.  Please provide me with the following information (if you haven’t already) at your earliest convenience (emailing me is preferable):
