  A FESTIVAL OF DANCE

For unknown dancers looking for a leg up, a performance in Jackson is a mega-audition. No one does it quite like they do in Mississippi.”

-LIVE!

From its early beginning in 1979, the USA IBC has established itself as a major “dance festival” offering art and costume exhibits, workshops, a school for students and teachers, performances by nationally recognized companies and a showcase performance of Regional Dance America companies.

The International Dance School offers a full curriculum for students 12 and older who enjoy evening USA IBC performances. Several scholarships are offered at the end of the course for summer study at top-rated schools. A Teachers’ Workshop is also available for professional ballet teachers and dancers. Teachers bringing students to the school receive discounts on their course.

In 2006, Garth Fagan Dance conducted a 2-day residency holding a master class, performance and a lecture/demonstration. Pilates workshops were offered free of charge, and free screenings of the documentary Ballets Russes were also offered. Ballet Hispanico was featured at the USA IBC opening ceremony.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH DANCE EDUCATION PROGRAMS

IBC Summer Arts Camp. For the past 11 years, the USA IBC has conducted a summer arts camp for inner-city youth. Creative movement dance and visual art classes are offered to children ages 5 - 10. The camp offers six weeks of bi-weekly classes and closes with a performance for family and friends. Call the USA IBC office for enrollment information at 601.355.9853.

CityDance. A new after-school dance program is providing beginning ballet classes for children seven and eight years old who do not have the resources to participate in dance classes otherwise. No more than thirty children, along with 10 alternates, are chosen through an audition process. Each year, CityDance will add another class of beginners to the program as skill levels build. For further information, contact the USA IBC office at 601.355.9853.
