The USA IBC kicked off on the evening of Saturday, June 17, with the Gertrude C. Ford Foundation Opening Ceremony. The official USA IBC torch was lit, and Ballet Hispanico and former USA IBC medalists performed.
Former USA IBC medalist Joseph Phillips was the official torch bearer.
USA IBC Jury Chairman Bruce Marks lit the flame, and the 2006 competition was officially begun.
Former USA IBC medalist Danny Tidwell was one of the performers at the opening festivities.
