When does the USA
IBC take place?
The USA IBC takes place every four years
at its home in Jackson, Mississippi. The
next competition is scheduled for June 2010.
Does the competition still rotate among four major world cities?
Although the International Ballet Competition initially rotated between Varna, Bulgaria; Moscow, Russia; Tokyo, Japan; and Jackson, Mississippi, it no longer does so. However, the USA IBC is still held every fourth year. Varna now hosts a competition once every two years.
How
do I find out about other competitions?
The USA IBC is independent of any other
international ballet competition. We do
our own research to gather other event dates
and publish them in our newsletters. Also,
other competitions may have web sites. Some
links can be found
here.
What is the difference
between the three rounds of competition?
Approximately 100 competitors from all over
the world will compete in two-weeks of intense
elimination rounds. In Round I, all competitors
perform a classical piece from the pre-selected
Junior or Senior repertoire. Semi-finalists
perform a contemporary work in Round II.
In Round III, finalists perform both classical
and contemporary dance.
How
can I find out the performance order so
I can follow my favorite dancer?
Numbers are drawn randomly at registration,
and the competitors keep their number throughout
the entire process. They will perform in
numerical order.
How
do I enroll in your International Dance
School or Teachers Workshop?
The International Dance School (IDS) and
Teachers Workshop are companion events
that take place during the competition.
Contact us to receive an application, or
download one from our web site once they
are available (fall 2009).
Can
you contact a dancer for me?
Any professional dancer should be contacted
through their agent, publicist or the company
that employs them. We do not have the resources
to provide this service.
What
is a Host Family? Do competitors stay with
local families?
Housing and meals are provided at the International
Village on the campus of Belhaven College.
Local families volunteer to shower our international
guests with southern hospitality during
the two-week competition.
How
can I volunteer for the USA IBC?
During the competition, the USA IBC works
with a dedicated staff of volunteers who
serve as interpreters, host families and
much more. Learn more about becoming a volunteer
