April 12, 2006

The USA International Ballet Competition (USA IBC) has awarded eight full-tuition scholarships to its International Dance School. The school is held in conjunction with the competition, scheduled for June 17 – July 2 in Jackson, and provides an opportunity for intermediate and advanced level students to study dance with some of the world’s leading teachers.

Curriculum for the program includes ballet, jazz, modern, contemporary and character work. In addition to taking daily classes, International Dance School students can also attend competition performances in the evenings and enjoy a wide variety of dance-related exhibits, lectures and classes.

Only Mississippians were eligible to apply for the scholarships. Recipients include Dustin Layton of Mize, Kyra McCarty of Oxford, Sarah Malone of Macon, Emily Higginbotham of Laurel, Kristin Kergosien of Bay St. Louis, Mia Whitehead of Jackson, Tyler Muhlenkamp of Madison and Hanna Tiep of Ridgeland.

International Dance School scholarships for 2006 are sponsored by Watkins Ludlam Winter & Stennis, P.A. and Bradley Arant Rose & White, LLP. The USA IBC International Dance School is sponsored by the Chisholm Foundation, the Mississippi Agricultural Museum, Jackson State University and Dance Teacher Magazine.
