  Lobrano named leading business woman
Mississippi Business Journal honors USA IBC director

October 7, 2004

Sue Lobrano, executive director of the USA International Ballet Competition, was recently selected by the Mississippi Business Journal as one of Mississippi’s top fifty business women. One of only two leaders in the arts recognized by the publication, Lobrano is beginning her 25th year with the USA IBC.

“I’m honored to be chosen for this special recognition,” said Lobrano, “and I want to note that although strong leadership is vital to the success of the USA IBC, the organization cannot accomplish its mission without the support of an enthusiastic board of directors, a dedicated staff and a virtual army of devoted volunteers and supporters. We all work together to produce this world-class event.”

A former dancer and dance teacher, Lobrano began her tenure with the USA IBC in 1980 and was later promoted to general manager. She was named executive director in 1986, and has since traveled the world representing the USA IBC at other international competitions and dance events.

Lobrano served as a member of the Honorary Committee for the 2000 Ballet Russes Celebration in New Orleans, was appointed to the Mayor’s Millennium Council and serves on advisory councils for both the ArtsAlliance of Jackson & Hinds County and the Power Academic and Performing Arts Complex. She is a recipient of the Jackson Convention & Visitors Bureau’s Hometown Hero Award and the Hands of Providence Award from Southern Christian Services for Children and Youth. Lobrano is a founding member of the World Dance Alliance, and she also serves on advisory boards for Ballet Mississippi and Pointe Magazine.
