Brooke Wyatt, a native of Jackson, recently joined the staff of the USA International Ballet Competition as artistic administrator. In her new role, Wyatt will be responsible for competitor relations as well as many of the artistic aspects of the International Ballet Competition itself. She will also manage the organization’s arts education programs, such as CityDance and the IBC Summer Arts Camp.
“As a young dancer growing up in Mississippi, the USA IBC made a tremendous impact on my life,” said Wyatt. “When I was approached about this position, I was eager to come home and be part of an organization so close to me.”
Wyatt received a bachelor’s degree in dance education from Brenau University in Georgia and has also studied at the Alabama School of Fine Arts, Ballet Mississippi, the American College Dance Festival and the USA IBC International Dance School. A former pupil of both Dame Sonia Arova and Thor Sutowski, Wyatt has danced with the Gainesville Ballet Company as well as several modern dance companies. Credits include dance performance and choreography for Open Bar and Summertime with the New Dance Group Arts Center of New York and dance performance for both the 25th Anniversary of “Save the Fox” in Atlanta and Sky Dancer Productions’ Come to the Cabaret. She has also worked extensively as a private instructor of ballet, pointe and modern dance. Most recently, Wyatt served on the educational outreach staff for American Ballet Theatre.
“My experience as a dancer and administrator in New York allows me to bring a variety of skills to the IBC,” Wyatt added. “I have been given an amazing opportunity to work with dance professionals from around the world.”
Wyatt will immediately begin preparations for the upcoming USA International Ballet Competition, scheduled to take place June 17 - July 2, 2006, in Jackson, Mississippi. |
