The International Dance School, held in conjunction with the USA International Ballet Competition, provides an opportunity for intermediate and advanced level students to study with some of the worlds leading teachers and to attend exciting performances of the USA International Ballet Competition. A two-week session is offered for students ages 12 and up in intermediate and advanced levels who have had a minimum of four consecutive years of ballet training. The curriculum includes ballet technique, pointe and variations; jazz, modern, contemporary and character. Additional activities are planned for students free time to introduce them to the unique culture and friendly people of Mississippi.
At the 2006 International Dance School, 296 students from 24 states and five countries studied with 11 of the worlds leading dance teachers. A partnership was also forged with Boston Ballet, The Rock School, Alabama Ballet, Joffrey Ballet and Joffrey South. The dance school faculty selected six students to receive tuition scholarships to attend these institutions summer programs in the summer of 2007.
