More than 300 dancers from 27 countries have applied to compete in the 11th USA International Ballet Competition. A screening by dance professionals will be held in early March to select the approximately 100 competitors who will be invited to dance for gold June 10-23 in Jackson, Mississippi,
Cash prizes for award winners and bonus travel stipends for all Round III finalists will exceed $150,000. Each finalist receives a $1,500 stipend in this year’s competition.
The City of Jackson Grand Prix Award, presented only four times in USA IBC history, increases to $20,000 for the recipient. Past winners were Nina Ananiashvili and Andris Liepa, USA IBC III; José Carreño, USA IBC IV, and Johan Kobborg, USA IBC V.
Prize amounts for Senior Men’s and Women’s Division medalists are:
- $12,000 – Gold
- $7,000 – Silver
- $5,000 – Bronze
- $2,000 – Best Senior Couple
Prize amounts for Junior Men’s and Women’s Division medalists are:
- $6,000 – Gold
- $4,000 – Silver
- $2,000 – Bronze
- $1,000 – Best Junior Couple
In addition, each competitor who progresses to Round III as a finalist in June will receive a $1,500 travel stipend through the Peggy Mize Fund of the Community Foundation of Greater Jackson. In 2014, 31 finalists received $1,000 each from the fund.
Other cash prizes to be given are the Choreography Award, $3,000; Jury Award, $2,000; and Robert Joffrey Award, $1,000.
