USA IBC XIII Official Artist and Poster
Since the inaugural USA IBC in 1979, each competition has been commemorated with an original poster created by a selected artist.
The USA International Ballet Competition (USA IBC) announces Lauren N. Commarato as its official artist for the 2027 competition scheduled for June 12-26, in Jackson, Mississippi. Recognized as one of the world’s most prestigious dance events, the USA IBC is a two-week “Olympic-style” competition where professional and amateur dancers vie for medals, cash awards and scholarships.
To commemorate the golden anniversary of the USA IBC, a contest was held to choose the 2027 commemorative poster. Artists from around the world submitted their work to be in the running for the next poster. Mona Nicholas, executive director, USA IBC, said “We were pleased at the number of entries and from the large geographic area that spanned the world. A committee worked together to review each submission in a blind format of judging.”
“The IBC is very pleased that Lauren Commarato, a native of Natchez, Mississippi, was chosen as the 2027 official artist,” said Nicholas. “She’ll be joining the ranks of those esteemed artists who have shared their interpretation of the artistry and excitement experienced through the USA IBC with dance enthusiasts worldwide.”
Lauren received her bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture from Mississippi State in 2014. Her work is shaped by her past and serves as a quiet reflection on time, grief, and the landscapes that carry our histories. For her, painting is a way of preserving these memories, layering color and atmosphere to evoke nostalgia. Every place holds meaning, whether through individual experience or the collective memory of those who have passed through it. She aims to create spaces that feel both deeply personal and widely familiar, inviting viewers to discover their own connections — recognizing something known, remembered, or felt.
The 2027 poster featuring Commarato’s design, sponsored by Benchmark Construction, was formally unveiled at a Jackson press event on October 22, 2026, which was followed by a festive Friends of the USA IBC event, Moonlight Attitude. This USA IBC Kick-off party was held at the Old Capitol Inn.
USA IBC XIII will take place June 12 – 26, 2027 in Jackson, Mississippi and it will be a celebration of 50 years of artistic excellence. Lauren Commarato’s work will be on display at Brown’s Fine Art and Framing during the two-week event for all to view.
