Gertrude C. Ford Foundation Opening Ceremony

Honors Robert Joffrey with a performance by dancers of the Joffrey Ballet, under the artistic direction of Ashley Wheater. Accompanied by the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, the guest artists present Gerald Arpino’s Round of Angels and Yuri Possokhov’s interpretation of the Spartacus Pas De Deux. Justin Peck’s In Creases, choreographed to Phillip Glass’s Four Movements for Two Pianos, features dancers with accompanists at two grand pianos on stage.

Be enlightened, enriched and entertained. Attend one or all four lectures in the Legends of Ballet series. Olga Guardia de Smoak describes the impact of one of the 20th century’s most influential ballet companies in History of the Ballet Russes, Friday, June 15. In 2000, Ms. de Smoak founded the New Orleans International Ballet Conference which organized the Ballet Russes Conference, reuniting surviving members of Ballet Russes. A documentary of the reunion also will be shown at the planetarium.
