CityDance provides ongoing ballet instruction for public school students, nurturing interest in dance
CityDance is a free after-school ballet program for Jackson Public School and charter school students between the ages of 7 and 12. Participants receive complimentary dance shoes, leotards and tights along with ballet classes throughout the academic year. While prior dance experience is not required, students must be selected through auditions because of limited class size. Selection is based on the student’s flexibility, rhythm and ability to follow instructions during the audition.
Three levels of instruction are provided. Level 1 and 2 classes meet once a week, and the more advanced Level 3 class meets twice a week. Classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays in downtown Jackson at the Mississippi Arts Center, 201 E. Pascagoula St.
Auditions for the 2017-2018 school year will be held Saturday, Sept. 9, at the Mississippi Arts Center, 201 E. Pascagoula St. Auditions are open to boys and girls between ages 7-10 and to 11- and 12-year-olds who completed the 2016-2017 school year. Audition times are:
- 8:15 a.m. – Ages 7 and 8
- 10 a.m. – Ages 9 and 10
- 11:30 a.m. – Returning CityDance students ages 11 and 12
CityDance presents an end-of-the-year performance for family, friends and the public each May.
