CityDance – Guidelines

Students who are enrolled in Jackson Public Schools may audition for CityDance, provided they are between the ages of 7 and 10 the day of audition; 11- and 12-year-olds who completed CityDance the previous school year also may audition.

Auditions for the new CityDance school year will be held in early September at the Arts Center of Mississippi, 201 E. Pascagoula St., in downtown Jackson. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Audition times are by age:

  • 8:15 a.m. — ages 7 and 8
  • 10:00 — ages 9 and 10
  • 11:30 — ages 11 and 12 (returning students only)

Approximately two-thirds of the students who audition are accepted based on their demonstrated flexibility, rhythm and ability to pay attention and follow simple directions. Dance experience is not required.

Class Schedules

Students who are selected are placed into Level 1 (beginners), Level 2 or Level 3 (most advanced).
